The brand, ‘Bench’ is a global fashion clothing brand, founded in the UK, which is now sold worldwide and recently a new store was opened in the Ashford Designer Outlet, where Ansell Lighting were approached by Edmundson Electrical in Enfield, to provide a lighting design for their customer, Darren Creevy of Premier Shopfitting Contractors Ltd.
It is generally accepted that lighting is a crucial element of any retail environment, in that it can provide basic ambient lighting, allowing visitors to safely transit around the store, and then that of accent lighting capable of adequately providing directed feature-based illumination on the products being offered for sale, allowing potential purchasers to make informed decisions, which ultimately influence their selected choice for purchase.
In considering how best to offer the optimum solution, it was suggested that there were several key objectives for the instore lighting, that being lumen performance, light source colour temperature, colour rendering properties, and energy efficiency
All of these requirements throughout the store were met using a combination of track mounted spotlights, and recessed LED fittings.
The installation of a 240 Volt, 16 Amp mains track system allowed the optimum flexibility of having the ability to position the installed spotlights in order to best achieve the desired levels of direct illumination. The track system can be either surface mounted or suspended and can be cut to length, as well as being available in either black or white in colour, thereby allowing for its use in many different retail projects.
The selected luminaire was the single circuit compact Unity 4 Non-Dimmable Track spot fitting, which with its integral driver, its 355° rotation and 0° to 180° inclination tilt, together with a 40° beam angle, mirror finish anti-glare anodised reflector for visual comfort, and powerful 42-Watt 4000K performance, providing suitability for both retail and hospitality applications. With a lifetime of L70 to 50,000 hours and a colour rendering index of 90, this fitting provides both extended life and colour quality illumination, ideal for any retail environment.
The track lighting is supported with the Unity 175 architectural LED Recessed Wallwash fitting with its 355° rotation and 15° to 45° available tilt, having a 30° beam angle in the horizontal position. Constructed with a die-cast aluminium body and heatsink for optimal thermal management, alongside a remote driver with plug-and-play connection and dimmable options, this 35-Watt fitting in either 3000k or 4000K options, provides the optimum solution to accompany the track system.
The Unity 4 LED Track Spotlight has comparable performance to 150W HQI and an anti-glare design to create a visual comfort. In addition to this a 355 degree rotation and 180 degree tilt mechanism provides the flexibility of the light direction required.
The Unity 175 LED Wallwash delivers a comparable performance to 100W HQI with the adjustable tilt angle creating a pleasant, welcoming environment and adds to the visibility and visual impact of the displays on the walls.
On completion of the store lighting installation, the contractor, Daniel Creevy expressed his delight in commenting “We are really pleased with the project design and performance. Premier Shopfitting Contractors have been using Ansell Lighting for more than 10 years and we have the confidence in the reliability and performance of the products”.
