In the competitive world of retailing, creating an inviting shopping environment for customer, whilst also efficiently managing operational costs is paramount, a challenging situation being faced at this Co-operative store in Chelmsford. This well-established convenience store at 156 Gloucester Ave in Chelmsford, is located to cater to the diverse needs of its local customers, selling a wide range of groceries, and an in-store bakery, as well as providing a range of other services.
To overcome these challenges head-on, the company turned to their trusted electrical contractor to modernise the instore illumination, by installing lighting fittings which will achieve a range of objectives of energy efficiency in reducing the overall energy consumption to lower operational costs, in enhancing the visibility in-store, so as to create a welcoming and well-lit shopping atmosphere for customers, and for sustainability in aligning with the Co-operative corporate sustainability goals.
To achieve these various specification requirements, the contractor selected the Ansell Lighting Pace Plus 600×600 Multi-Wattage LED Panels, providing an innovative lighting solution to both transform and enhance the shopping experience for customers, whilst also maximising operational efficiency.
The Pace Plus commercial modular range is an industry leading super high efficiency backlit LED panel, with suitability for a wide range of applications, including education, commercial and ancillary locations, and with its slimline design, this makes it ideal for installations having a shallow ceiling void.
Having a power selectable feature, this offers the installer and client, a choice of 4 different outputs, in either 12, 14, 16 or 18Watts, giving a lumen performance of between 2100 and 3100 lumens with a Coolwhite colour of 4000K, together with option to select between switched and various dimmable options, providing an efficacy of up to 180lm/Watt. The various dimming option include Switch Dim, DALI and 0-10V Dimming capability using the multi dimmable driver accessories ADDIM30/MC.
The Pace Plus can achieve a Unified Glare Rating of UGR<19, means that the fitting can assist in eliminating glare for enhanced visual comfort and allow for a compliant installation. Having a TPa rated diffuser as standard, allows for its use with applications, such as within education and in some healthcare spaces.
The fitting has a beam angle of 80°, with a Colour Rendering Index of Ra80, and can operate across a wide range of temperatures from -20°C, through to +40°C, for a lifetime to L90 of 52,000 hours.
This solution for the Co-operative store in Chelmsford with the Ansell Lighting Pace Plus Multi-Wattage fittings gave the client the flexibility to adjust the power consumption at the time of installation, through a dip-switch action, thereby allowing different levels of illumination across the various sections of the store, whilst maintaining the overall continuity in the luminaire layout.
This allowed the client to maximise energy efficiency, whilst providing ideal levels of illumination, and together with the fitting’s extensive lifetime of 52,000 hours, with only a 10% reduction in performance, allows for a solution, that offers, not only optimum lighting levels, but also longevity in the operational life of the luminaires. The Pace Plus is also known for its durability, and together with very low maintenance, means reduced operating costs and disruptions to the business.
A professional contractor was engaged to install Pace Plus 600×600 Multi-Wattage LED panels, and the installation process was conducted with meticulous care to ensure a seamless transition to the new lighting solution, whilst minimizing disruption to the store’s operations. The contractor also optimized lighting levels for each store area to provide the appropriate levels of illumination across the different the various areas.
The transformation has offered the client with an energy efficient solution, thereby reducing electrical energy costs, whilst providing an enhanced shopping experience for the customer, by creating a bright and inviting appearance, which contributes to increased foot traffic and hopefully increased sales. The feedback has been very positive, with customers appreciating the enhanced lighting, leading to improved customer satisfaction and loyalty.
With an extended operating lifetime, this energy efficient solution aligns with the Co-operative commitment to maximise sustainability and in reducing their carbon footprint. Overall, it’s a win, win situation for both the company and its customers, thereby providing a remarkable success story, when the electrical contractor, the electrical wholesale and the lighting manufacturer work together to provide the client with an installation that not only meets the specification, but also exceeds their expectations.
