GECAS Headquarters

The GECAS story began in 1967, when they contracted their first aircraft lease agreement, a landmark that would help launch a new industry. From the sector’s early beginnings and the foundation of Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA) in 1975, Ireland has grown to become the global hub of the aviation leasing industry. GECAS, a world-leading aviation lessor and financier, is at the heart of this success story. 

Today, with a global fleet of over 1,950, GECAS plays a central role in Ireland’s world leading position as an aviation leasing hub, contributing €150m annually to the Irish economy, with €23bn worth of assets under management in Ireland.  

GECAS operate several facilities across Ireland. The building in focus is a multi-level office space situated at Aviation House, Shannon, Co. Clare which is home to GE Capital Aviation Services. Often regarded as the ‘Silicon Valley’ of Ireland.  

Rather like most buildings throughout the UK and Ireland, GECAS’ operated inefficient and expensive to maintain CFL and first-generation LED fixtures. GECAS found themselves with increasingly higher monthly electricity and maintenance bills for lighting fixtures that were completely out of date.  

GECAS knew they required a refit that featured more energy efficient LEDs with the goal of saving energy and reducing their carbon footprint. The question was: how do you go one step further and make the most efficient light even more efficient? 

The answer was a full refit from Ansell’s Lighting Design team which featured our OCTO smart connected system. The lighting design service offered is free of charge and offers industry leading 2-3 days turnaround times.  

The lighting design saw OCTO enabled products such as our Comfort LED and Endurance LED installed throughout the building. All controlled via 180 PIR’s and switches which triggers time-of-day based scenes which ensures the right amount of light output is distributed for the task in hand.  

Our Comfort LED Downlight is a great downlight solution within the OCTO ecosystem of products. It is an economic high performance IP44 downlight which features a deep cut-off angle for glare control and comfort. It comes with Osram LED technology and an enhanced diffuser design for outstanding uniformity. Comfort has an LED lifespan L70 50,000 hours and dimmable and Emergency options are also available. 

Coupled with the Comfort install was our Endurance LED. An immensely popular panel for its LED lifespan L80 B10 54,000 hours and five year warranty. Another great LED solution that sits within the thriving OCTO ecosystem, the Endurance features a white anodised aluminium frame for visual compatibility with the ceiling grid and is a UGR<19 (unified glare rating) compliant luminaire assisting to eliminate glare for visual comfort.
