OCTO Transforms the Modern Home

During the past couple of years, the residential home has played an unforeseeable bigger role in the life of the homeowner, something which nobody could have foreseen or thought imaginable.

Many homes across the UK still lack basic smart lighting functionality which can truly transform the living space in more ways than one, and this case study explores how this homeowner used the OCTO smart lighting connected system to take complete control of the installed lighting within their home, to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional environment in which to live.

What if one imagines a scenario where the lighting automatically illuminates the driveway when a vehicle enters on a dark evening or when a person is approaching the front door, or when during food preparation, the kitchen lighting increases illumination and then dims for a relaxing mealtime, or even where bedrooms are only illuminated when they are occupied, thereby not having to ask children to switch of their bedroom light when leaving. OCTO has a thriving ecosystem of products to choose from, however in this install, the client used the Krait LED Strip, the Cobra LED Strip, the Tandem Bi-Directional c/w Wiz GU10 lamps, along with Twistlock Downlights, which were fitted with the OCTO WIZ GU10 RGBTW Smart Lamp.

Both the Krait and Cobra products were installed throughout the kitchen and surrounding areas, allowing the homeowner to create stunning spaces using various colours.

The Krait LED Strip is a flexible solution with suitability for residential, hospitality and retail applications and with a 24V input, this offers greater efficiencies and option of longer LED strip sizes. It is available in single colour, RGB, RGBW and tuneable white flexible LED strip options, all with a self-adhesive back for flexible installation, and a fast fit plug and play connections remove the need for time consuming soldering of joints and also features 100mm cutting points across the majority of the range and a 167mm cutting point for the Tuneable strip. Completely dimmable with an appropriate compatible LED Driver and offered with a range of joint and connection accessories, which are sold separately.

The Cobra LED Strip is a high density (brightness) 12V single colour and RGB flexible LED strip for residential applications, and like the Krait, is also supplied with self-adhesive back, coming with fast fit plug and play connections which remove the need for time consuming soldering of joints. Completely dimmable with an appropriate compatible LED Driver and offered with a range of joint and connection accessories, which are sold separately.

The Krait and Cobra together transformed the kitchen space and created spaces which are considered as being truly magical. The homeowner can use the OCTO system to set lighting scenes and aminations which can be themed and timed to welcome them home in the evening, wake them up in the morning and dim the output, when necessary, thereby saving energy usage. Different scenes can be created for a whole range of purposes, and which are truly customisable.

Along the outside of the home is where you’ll find the Tandem bi-Directional wall light, which is a modern wall light with an aluminium construction with graphite textured paint finish. The Tandem is a great LED solution, due to how well it balances form and function, and can blend in seamlessly with the overall aesthetics of any installation. With twin OCTO WIZ GU10 Smart Lamp installed in the Tandem fittings and with voice activated compatibility offering optimum control, which is perfect for both residential and commercial projects, as well as being fully dimmable from 10% to 100%. OCTO can also integrate motion sensors into a network of luminaires, for both interior and exterior environments, which means the OCTO enabled Tandem will only illuminate an area when the lamps detect motion, thereby saving on energy costs.

The Twistlock downlights completed the range of products installed from the Ansell portfolio, which is manufactured from high grade die-cast aluminium with a permanent earth on stirrup bracket for GU10 mains earthing and featuring a generous size of terminal housing with loop-in/loop-out push fit terminals for an easy and efficient installation. The Twistlock has the option to facilitate Bluetooth and WiFi enabled smart WiZ GU10 lamps and is a popular downlight with customers due to its value for money approach and reliability, whilst being offered with a five-year warranty.

Together the products worked flawlessly and enabled complete control for the user within their home. The OCTO platform provided incredible benefits and the user was able to benefit from OCTO’s ability to be updated over the air which means the system continues to improve providing great post-purchase value.
