The Brief
141 Moorgate sits in one of London’s most prominent business districts, and the expectations of a Cat B fit-out at that address reflect the location. Protest ES Ltd, the electrical contractor overseeing the fit-out, was tasked with delivering a complete two-floor scheme to the highest standard — taken from architectural drawings and developed into a full lighting design that could demonstrate exactly how the finished space would look and perform before a single fitting was installed.
The brief demanded a scheme that felt considered and cohesive throughout, capable of serving the full range of environments a modern office demands: open-plan working areas above the desks that needed consistent, comfortable illumination across long working days, alongside meeting rooms that required a different quality of light — focused, glare-free, and well suited to the demands of face-to-face collaboration. The lighting design needed to win the confidence of the client before the project began, and deliver on that confidence once the fit-out was complete.
The Solution
The lighting design was developed directly from the architectural drawings supplied to Protest ES Ltd, with product selection built around two Ansell fittings that each played a distinct and complementary role across the two floors.
The Blade architectural recessed linear was specified as the primary source of main lighting throughout the open-plan office areas, running directly above the desk runs to deliver clean, consistent illumination exactly where it was needed most. Its all-aluminium construction gives it the sleek, refined appearance that a premium City fit-out demands, while its ability to create continuous, seamless runs of light — using connector accessories and the roll-on diffuser — allowed the design to achieve unbroken lines of illumination stretching across the ceiling plane above the workstations. The result is a modern, architectural finish that feels deliberate and polished rather than functional and incidental. CCT selectability between 3000K, 4000K and 6500K gave the design team the flexibility to dial in precisely the right colour temperature for a productive working environment, ensuring the light felt as good as it looked.
The Comfort EVO downlight was specified for the meeting rooms, where the recessed linear approach of the Blade gave way to something more contained and adaptable. The Comfort EVO’s CCT selectability and choice of black or white trim allowed the fitting to complement the interior finish of each meeting room, while delivering the consistent, comfortable light levels that those spaces demand. Its smart three-part design gave Protest ES Ltd’s installation team the flexibility needed on a fit-out of this scale, and its clean recessed appearance keeps the ceiling uncluttered — letting the meeting rooms feel calm and professional without the lighting becoming a distraction.
Together, the two products gave the lighting scheme a clear and logical structure: the Blade defining the open-plan floors with long, architectural lines of light above every desk, the Comfort EVO providing focused, high-quality downlighting in the meeting rooms where precision and finish matter most.
The Result
The lighting design, developed from drawings and built around the Blade and Comfort EVO pairing, won the project for Protest ES Ltd — and the finished fit-out at 141 Moorgate demonstrates exactly why. Across both floors, the scheme delivers a consistently high standard of illumination that reflects the quality of the building and the ambitions of its occupiers.
The Blade’s continuous lines running above the desks give the open-plan floors a clean, modern aesthetic that reads immediately as considered and premium — the kind of finish that sets the tone for everything else in the space. The Comfort EVO handles the meeting rooms with quiet confidence, delivering the right quality of light for focused discussion and presentation without compromising on appearance.
This project is a strong example of what can be achieved when a contractor like Protest ES Ltd brings the right partners to the table early. The lighting design work done at drawing stage — selecting the right products, demonstrating the scheme to the client, and making a compelling case before work began — is what secured the project. The Blade and Comfort EVO gave that design the products it needed to make the argument convincingly, and Protest ES Ltd delivered the installation to match.
