Designed to give healthcare students hands-on experience in a realistic clinical environment, the space needs to function — and feel — as close to a working ward as possible. When the time came to upgrade the lighting throughout the room, the brief reflected that responsibility: the new scheme needed to deliver the kind of clean, high-quality illumination expected of a genuine healthcare setting, while remaining visually comfortable for students and staff spending extended periods working within it.

The nature of the space made visual comfort a non-negotiable requirement. Students learning clinical procedures and assessment techniques need consistent, glare-free light across the entire room — replicating the conditions they will encounter in real ward environments and ensuring that nothing in the lighting itself becomes a distraction from the task at hand.
