Taurus Bollard Lights the Way at Crosfields School

Crosfields School is an independent prep school in Berkshire and its large on-site car park and network of pedestrian pathways demanded a lighting solution that could meet the exacting standards of a busy, well-managed school estate. Ansell Lighting’s Taurus bollard was chosen to bring those spaces to life as part of a comprehensive outdoor lighting upgrade.

The Taurus was specified for pathway and lower-level perimeter lighting throughout the site, running along the pedestrian routes that connect the car park to the school’s main buildings. Installed alongside streetlighting to handle broader, higher-level illumination across the wider parking areas, the bollard forms the human-scale layer of a carefully considered mixed lighting scheme — guiding parents, pupils, and staff safely and clearly through the site during the early morning and evening periods when lighting matters most.

The Taurus’s die-cast aluminium construction and polycarbonate lens were central to why it was the right product for this project. Built to withstand the demands of year-round outdoor installation and rated to IP65, it offers the kind of robust, weather-resistant performance that estate managers need from fittings in high-traffic external environments — reliable, low-maintenance, and built to last.

With an output of up to 100lm/W and an LED lifetime of up to L70 44,000 hours, the Taurus delivers strong, efficient illumination over the long term — supporting the school’s energy efficiency objectives and reducing the operational burden of the installation over time. CCT selectability between 3000K and 4000K gave the specifier the flexibility to tailor the light quality to each area of the site, while the 1000mm height ensures light is distributed effectively at ground level without introducing glare for those moving through the space.

The textured graphite finish of the Taurus presents a clean, contemporary appearance that complements the school grounds without drawing unnecessary attention to itself — a fitting that does its job quietly, professionally, and well.
