As part of a targeted lighting upgrade at Tipperary University Hospital, Ansell Lighting became involved, specifying and supplying a range of products from the comprehensive range of high-performance LED solutions on offer, proving ideal solutions for healthcare, commercial, and various outdoor environments.
With luminaire quality, energy efficiency, electrical safety, as key manufacturing priorities, alongside providing optimum user comfort, the lighting solution upgrade encompassed integrated smart OCTO controls and PIR Sensors, allowing for adaptable lighting configurations, ensuring optimal functionality, sustainability, and reliability across the various corridors, rooms, stairwells, and numerous external spaces.
The Pace Plus 600×600 Multi-Wattage Panels was selected for the corridors, being high-traffic areas which require bright uniform illumination, without unwanted glare, whilst maximising energy efficiency and effective lighting control. These super-efficient LED panels, which encompass a performance up to 180lm/W, and offering UGR<19 compliance, provide a comfortable, bright lighting installation, which can reduce eye strain for staff and patients. The multi-wattage selection and OCTO smart lighting compatibility ensure adaptability and lower energy consumption through intelligent control within these well-travelled areas.
To complement the corridor lighting and enhance safety across the hospital’s circulation areas, the EndLED Lithium Exit Box was also installed in hallways and above doorways. Acting as both an emergency lighting solution and illuminated emergency exit signage, this fitting ensures clear exit route visibility during power outages or emergencies, supporting safe evacuation procedures while maintaining compliance with healthcare safety standards.
The Comfort Evo Downlight was specified for areas within the hospital requiring a low-glare, high-quality lighting solution, whilst offering uniform illumination without harsh brightness. The Comfort Evo downlights deliver exceptional uniformity alongside reduced glare, thereby creating a calm, well-lit environment suitable for patient areas, staff workspaces, and waiting zones.
The Oxford Luminaire was selected to illuminate patient rooms, as well as other key areas which require lighting that balances aesthetic appeal, comfort, and high performance from one fitting. The Oxford luminaires superbly met the requirement in providing even, high-quality illumination, ensuring a welcoming and well-lit atmosphere contributing to a calm and reassuring healthcare environment.
The Volo CCT Dual Wattage Recessed Modular was specified for spaces requiring a versatile lighting solution, using a modular fitting with customisable brightness and colour temperature. The dual wattage and CCT adjustability of the Volo Modular allows precise control over brightness and light tone, ensuring an optimised lighting environment for different medical applications. To enhance safety in these areas, emergency packs were also fitted to the Volo units, ensuring continued illumination during power loss situations.
The Galaxy CCT MultiLED Downlight was specified for various spaces within the hospital environment, for those rooms requiring a high-output performance, and a uniform level of illumination to ensure visibility for medical staff while maintaining patient comfort. These downlights offer CCT selection, allowing the hospital to tailor lighting levels to different tasks and room functions.
The Mercurial IP54 2CCT Luminaires were selected for stairwells, as these require a safe, durable lighting fitting, which is capable of withstanding moisture and dust ingress, and capable of operating for long periods of time. These IP54-rated luminaires provide reliable, energy-efficient illumination, improving visibility and safety in emergency escape routes while maintaining low maintenance costs.
Externally, the Wolf CCT Multi-Wattage Wallpack was specified for the building exterior and the car parks, where there is a requirement for a robust, weatherproof lighting fitting that provides strong illumination for security and personal safety. The Wolf Wallpack features an adjustable wattage and CCT options, allowing the hospital to optimise brightness while ensuring energy-efficient operation. Their impact-resistant build ensures long-term reliability in harsh weather conditions.
The Tornado Evo 2 was selected for the Boiler Room, an area requiring luminaires of high-output and industrial strength which can operate in these harsh conditions. The Tornado Evo 2 was ideal, in delivering powerful, durable illumination, ideal for demanding technical environments where longevity and efficiency are essential.
Finally, the control of lighting enhances energy efficiency and sustainability, whilst creating an environment that ideally meets with the hospital clients’ requirements and expectations for intelligent, automated lighting solutions to reduce unnecessary energy consumption while ensuring lights are available when needed, and to that end, the OCTO Smart Lighting Switches and PIR Sensors were specified. The integrated OCTO Smart Lighting Switches and PIR Sensors allow for automated lighting control based on occupancy, ensuring lights activate only when required, significantly reducing energy waste and operational costs.
