Ansell’s Trinity CCT UGR19 surface linear delivered a high-specification, glare-controlled lighting upgrade across classrooms at Southport College, replacing an ageing installation with a modern, education-ready solution built to perform.
Southport College required a lighting upgrade across its classroom spaces that would deliver a meaningful improvement in both light quality and visual comfort for students and staff. The existing installation no longer met the demands of a modern learning environment, and the college required a replacement solution that could provide consistent, well-controlled illuminance levels throughout the day without compromising on the visual comfort of those working beneath it.
The brief was clear: the new specification needed to be UGR<19 compliant — a requirement increasingly specified across education environments to minimise glare and support concentration during extended learning sessions. Practicality and robustness were equally important considerations, as the solution would be installed across active classroom spaces in daily use by students and teaching staff alike.
The Trinity CCT UGR19 Surface Linear was selected as the ideal product to meet the brief in full. A high-specification surface-mounted linear designed specifically with education, healthcare and commercial applications in mind, the Trinity combines meaningful technical performance with a practical, durable construction that is well suited to the demands of a busy college environment.
The Trinity’s UGR<19 rating was central to its selection, ensuring that the upgraded classrooms would provide a visually comfortable environment for students throughout the learning day. By significantly reducing glare, the Trinity supports the kind of sustained concentration that modern teaching spaces demand — whether students are engaged with written work, screen-based tasks or direct instruction.
The product’s retractable and lockable end caps were a further important consideration. Designed specifically to address the requirements of education applications, the lockable end caps ensure the fittings remain secure and tamper-resistant in a classroom environment — a practical detail that reflects the Trinity’s genuine suitability for the sector rather than a simple adaptation of a commercial product.
With power and CCT selectable between 3000K, 4000K and 6000K, the Trinity offered the flexibility to dial in the most appropriate colour temperature for a focused learning environment, with multiple output options available within a single luminaire. The surface-mounted installation made the upgrade straightforward to deliver across the existing ceiling, with no requirement to adapt the ceiling void or introduce recessed infrastructure.
Dimmable and OCTO smart control options are available within the Trinity range, offering a natural path to enhanced control and energy management should the college wish to develop the installation further in future.
The completed classroom upgrade at Southport College delivers a step change in lighting quality for students and staff alike. The Trinity surface linears provide bright, uniform, glare-controlled illuminance across the refurbished spaces — creating an environment that supports focused learning and meets the visual performance standards expected of a modern education facility.
The project demonstrates how a clearly considered product selection can transform the learning environment and deliver long-term value. With an L80 rated lifetime of 80,000 hours and a robust steel body with polycarbonate diffuser, the Trinity installation is built to continue performing reliably throughout years of daily use at the college.
